If in the early 90s there were 6000 interrupted pregnancies in the country, last year only 500 women voluntarily decided to undergo abortion. The youngest was 14 and the oldest 47 years. According to doctors of the State Gynecologist Clinic, the reduced number is no reason to rejoice as it doesn't take into account the unaccounted abortions that take place in private hospitals and clinics across the country.  In fact, the government clinic continues to receive patients with complications caused by inappropriate and unprofessional termination of pregnancy. Unlike some western countries where abortion needs the consent and signature of the partner too, in our country usually only women decide whether to terminate the pregnancy. Most are unmarried. Their social structure was varied. Some are  students, some homemakers and some intellectuals - says Dr. Tanturovski fom the Clinic. Last year four doctors performed abortion on underage patients. However, according to gynecologists this figure is far higher, because minors are more likely to decide to terminate their pregnancy in a private hospital to protect their identity but also to burn shame around where they live.
